Choosing Partner Communities
Bridges to Community selects which communities it assists by taking into consideration its level of need, whether or not its needs match up with their primary program areas of health, education, housing, and economic development, the presence of a recognizable structure of leadership, and participation from its residents.
After each of these requirements are established, the organization conducts a series of interviews, community surveys, leadership training, and workshops in order to put a long-term plan in place. This initial assessment process takes a year to complete.
When a five-year plan has been decided upon that has the best potential to bring about sustainable growth, it’s time to bring in North American volunteers to help carry it out.
